It seems that a lot of chocolate companies seem to be focusing on praline filled eggs this year and the Fairtrade Praline Chocolate Eggs from Plush are no exception. Offering a bag filled with mini milk and dark chocolate eggs encasing a smooth hazelnut praline I was seriously hoping that these were going to be better than some of Plush's other chocolate offerings.
On reading the ingredients it seemed as if these chocolate eggs should be relatively good, with dark chocolate containing 70% minimum cocoa solids and milk chocolate containing 36% and all organic or fairtrade ingredients these sounded as if they should be good quality, it was only the addition of vegetable oil that put me off slightly but other than that I was hoping for a pleasant experience.
The eggs themselves are about the size of Mini Eggs and I really liked this about the product, I love a selection of small eggs for Easter that you don't have to feel incredibly guilty about cracking into and leaving little shards everywhere, these are easy to eat and once opened are easy to keep going back to without having to a snap a huge piece off. These definately have way more flavour than other Plush products I have tried; ok the praline flavour isn't mind blowing but there are the lovely tastes of hazelnut throughout and the contrast between milk & dark chocolate eggs provides a nice change throughout the eggs, there is definately a good praline flavour there.
It seems that on this instance Plush managed to deliver much more effectively on flavour without comprimising on their usual good texture, the inside of the eggs were wonderfully smooth & creamy and were perfectly well proportioned with the shell but also packed much more of a flavour punch than I had built myself up for.
I wouldn't go crazy about these Praline Eggs but they are very moreish and provide a nice snacking chocolate that you could nibble on throughout your Easter weekend, a pleasant offering, but not one that you would rave to the Easter Bunny about!
Taste - 6.3/10 - A pleasant hazelnut flavour praline with an either creamy milk chocolate or deeper dark chocolate shell, tasty but not mindblowing.
Texture - 7.7/10 - A good smooth praline interior perfectly proportioned with the outer shell exterior, just the right amoutn of both.
Appearance - 6.5/10 - These aren't the prettiest or most novel looking chocolates I have seen this Easter but offer a more sophisticated approach.
Price - 7.4/10 - At £3.99 these are a reasonable offering for a small 80g bag of Easter nibbles.
Overall - 6.9/10 - One to munch on throughout Easter weekend but hopefully not your main Easter offering.
