Madécasse 44% Single Origin Madagascar Milk Chocolate Bar

A new chocolate company about to reviewed now, a single origin Madagascar Milk Chocolate Bar from Madécasse, that I managed to get my hands on via the wonderful Chocadores website. Madécasse, based in America, produces their chocolates from the cocoa beans that are cultivated in their plant in Madagascar; however although being part of the 85% of chocolate companies that receive their cocoa beans from Africa they are also part of the minute 1% that actually produce their bars there! This certainly is a single origin bar!

You can really see why Madécasse were named one of the world's 50 most innovative companies recently, and with their extreme ethical approach to the cocoa industry it is a real pleasure to sit and enjoy their chocolate knowing that they have done everything in their power to create a fair market for the cocoa beans they use from their Ezaka Cooperative in Antsiranana, Madagascar.

The design and the wrapping of the bar has a wonderful rustic feel to it, with its light paper packaging and smooth shiny foil wrapping the chocolate it feels extremely earthly and although obviously you cannot judge how good the chocolate is going to be by the packaging it certainly gives the impression that Madécasse really care about every little detail that goes into their bars with their simplistic rustic approach.

The flavour of the bar itself is wonderful, decorated with a cocoa pod design on each square, the bar offers delightful flavour notes of light citrus, satsuma, flavours along with slight pangs of raisin now and then that contrast perfectly with the rich butteryness of the milk chocolate. Its so often that you cannot really taste anything other than fudge & caramel notes in milk chocolate bars but this offering from Madécasse provides a nice fruity edge that is rarely present in milk chocolate bars.

Nevertheless it is not only the flavour that is divine, the melt of this chocolate bar is amazing, the texture is so silky smooth, rich, buttery and ultimately indulgent and seems to last for an eternity. I'd not only recommend this bar to dark chocolate lovers who want to venture to a milk chocolate bar, but also to lovers of commercial chocolate who want to be shown what real milk chocolate should be like!

  1. I really need to get my hands on this bar, and while my local chocolate shop carries Madecasse, I'm not sure if they have the milk bar. Perhaps I could beg them to stock it.
