Ritter Sport Peppermint

In line with my recent Ritter Sport chocolate giveaway I thought I would review another one of their bars that you are able to get in this country; the Peppermint bar consisting of a mint creme/fondant like filling covered in dark chocolate...pretty much like a bar version of After Eight..but nicer!!

The bar again is presented in its 100g format with its easy to break off chunks; I love this about Ritter, the packaging of their chocolate is really different and comes in a stylish square block that is not only easy to snap and break off but also easy to reseal if you have will power and don't end up eating it all!!

Unlike After Eight you get much more Peppermint Creme inside your chocolate, it actually takes up 40% of the bar and definately provides a good satisfying filling experience there's no real scrimping here! The texture was also a lot thicker; instead of being runny and gooey it was more of a firm fondant that on biting held together well rather than sticking to your lips and running down your fingers!

The mint flavour was very light and refreshing without being too sickly with the coating of dark chocolate being just right in terms of size and deeper dark chocolate notes that allowed the peppermint filling to take centre stage and satisfy any minty craving you may have! This definately was nicer than After Eights but I don't think I liked it enough to go out and buy myself a bar.

I think there's just too many better chocolate products on the market than this one to warrant spending my money on it; no doubt it was still good in what it is, a dark chocolate peppermint fondant bar, but that's all it is and in my opinion there's other things I would rather use my daily calorie allowance on!!

Taste - 7.2/10 - A good peppermint dark chocolate bar, good flavours but nothing amazing.
Texture - 7.4/10 - Preferred the texture of the filling compared to the likes of After Eight, not as messy and runny to eat!
Appearance - 8/10 - I love how Ritter Sport's chocolates are presented, love the square block form.
Price - 7.3/10 - This bar was priced at £1.29 for a 100g bar of chocolate; if you love peppermint cremes etc then definately buy it as its well worth the money but I probably would choose to buy something else next time.
Overall - 7.5/10- A good peppermint creme, but nothing more really.

You can take a look at the rest of the range that Ritter do at their website here.

  1. Mint chocolate was never mine, so I think I'll pass on this bar!
