I've tried many of Vosges bars in the past, so when I was in L.A. and was tempted with their sister brand - Wild Ophelia; I just knew that one of their bars had to be picked up.
Classed as "exotic chocolate" bars, the variety of flavours are of course, as similar to Vosges, not the "norm". However I opted for a relatively safe option - peanut butter & banana milk chocolate.
Peanut Butter & Banana is really a match made in heaven; as you probably know very well I love chocolate + nuts, especially peanut butter. I really feel that the UK market is lacking in terms of the peanut butter chocolates offered; anything I see, I'm sure to swoop it up!
Again, like Vosges, the quality of chocolate is superior, a 41% deep milk chocolate blended with peanut butter & dried banana pieces and obviously isn't just a run of the mill commercial bar. A 57g bar cost me around $5; so around £3.50, priced lower than Vosges but still a good, decent, tasty bar. You can tell where costs have been cut back though; the design of the bar isn't as intricate as Vosges - there's no detail in the bar, just simple squares and as stated above the size is a bit smaller.
The milk chocolate was deep yet still creamy with a deliciously smooth melt; thankfully the dried banana pieces didn't intrude on the creamy texture and just provided a nice background flavour to the chocolate. I maybe would have liked the peanut butter to be slightly more prominent as I didn't feel it was particularly brought forward in terms of flavour in the bar.
Nevertheless; other than this, I can't really complain. I don't think I would rush out to buy it again but if you're looking for something a bit more upmarket and you're a fan of peanut butter & banana, like Elvis, then this is definitely worth a try.
Taste - 7.9/10 - Would have liked a bit more peanut butter flavour; the milk chocolate used is really good though.
Texture - 8.2/10 - Smooth, creamy melt.
Appearance - 6.7/10 - Nothing spectacular, but still good.
Price - 7.3/10 - Lower price point that Vosges, isn't going to break the bank.
Overall - 7.5/10 - A decent, good quality chocolate bar.
WHO FOR?Whether you're a huge fan of peanut butter or not its still a good milk chocolate bar.
