It's always difficult for me to decide which season I prefer more for chocolate - Christmas or Easter; apparently Easter sells more chocolate and the vast array of eggs on offer seems to improve year on year. I particularly look forward to seeing what Hotel Chocolat come up with each year; their eggs, I feel, provide that perfect balance between accessible in terms of taste and flavour but also being of a superior quality to the likes you will find sitting on the supermarket shelves.
I was kindly sent an Easter Pick Me Up Gift Bag to review from the folks at Hotel Chocolat - complete with White Chocolate Praline Bunnies, Raspberry Zinger Egglets and Foil Wrapped Salted Caramel Egglets. Of course the first thing that jumped out at me was those cute little bunnies; they definitely weren't around last year and are a cute and welcomed addition to the Hotel Chocolat Easter range..plus they're praline!
The quality is everything you would expect from Hotel Chocolat; the praline bunnies are that ideal balance between sweet and nutty; with the inner praline filling being rich, smooth and utterly melt in the mouth. Whilst the actual design of them is so cute that you almost feel cruel eating them...
The Raspberry Zinger Egglets are equally as delicious; a pink white chocolate shell filled with a zingy, tart, raspberry ganache. Tart, sweet and creamy. Heaven to just pop one in your mouth and let melt!!
It was nice to see that the Foil Wrapped Salted Caramel Egglets were popped in a nice looking bag as well; these would be great to open and share around on Easter Sunday..or you know, you could keep them all for yourself! These contain that same delicious liquid caramel we are used to from Hotel Chocolat, runny with a lovely salty tang paired with their rich milk chocolate shell makes for a delicious "egg-sperience"...sorry, one Easter "crack" had to be thrown in...oh no, was that two?!
I can imagine this Easter Pick Me Up would make a great gift for absolutely anyone this Easter; it contains a good mix of different chocolates and has something to suit everyone's tastes. It's great if you are wanting something a bit different to the traditional egg..plus it allows a bit more portion control if you feel that when you open an egg you just have to finish it all! You can partition these chocolates out and share them at your leisure!
Taste - 9.2/10 - Delicious, Hotel Chocolat never usually fail to let us down on flavour!
Texture - 9.2/10 - Smooth rich pralines and ganaches and a gorgeously runny liquid caramel.
Appearance - 9.3/10 - Gorgeous, cute bunnies and ribbon tied bags. A nice extra touch.
Price - 7/10 - This is priced at £13.00 which some may feel is a bit expensive when you can pick up an Easter egg for around £1 at the supermarkets. I feel you get what you pay for when it comes to quality though and this is far superior...and is essentially like a box of chocolates!
Overall - 8.7/10 - A great alternative to an Easter egg.
WHO FOR?I can imagine this would go down well with anyone with a sweet tooth - especially those who may appreciate filled chocolates as oppose to solid chocolate in egg form.
WHERE TO BUY?You'll be able to grab one of these from any Hotel Chocolat store or online here.
