Along with the few new chocolate bars that M&S have got for Tastes of the British Isles there's also a cute little range of dinky boxes filled with various British inspired chocolate coated treats. The first one I'll be reviewing is the Elderflower Raspberries; consisting of freeze dried raspberries coated in elderflower flavoured white chocolate that's marbled with a lovely pinky/red colour.
I love elderflower as a flavour, it's fresh, crisp, floral notes and it's very on trend at the moment. The actual chocolate coated raspberry pieces are a good decent size and have just the right thickness of chocolate coating them.
The chocolate gives a nice soft resistance to bite with the inner freeze dried raspberry giving a lovely crispy texture to the eat; the flavours work great together. The raspberry adds a lovely sharpness whilst the sweeter white chocolate and the floral elderflower help to balance it and give another flavour dimension. The elderflower flavour is quite subtle; which I think was the right way to go as too strong and it can sometimes become a bit sickly and overpowering.
I would never normally pick up chocolate coated fruit but because of the point of difference of the elderflower flavour they offer something a bit more unusual and something I would definitely pick up again as a nice treat to snack on, that offers something different to your standard chocolate offering.
