It feels like these Cadbury Dairy Milk Egg 'n' Spoon Oreo have been kicking around for a lifetime now; I'm sure I saw somebody trying them out on social media on January 1st! However I thought I would wait until a bit closer to Easter to try them out, especially as I'm still chipping away at Christmas chocolate, and when I saw them on special for £1 at Tesco I knew it was time.
I've tried both the standard vanilla and chocolate mousse filled Egg 'n' Spoon and although I am partial to one now and then I wouldn't go out of my way to purchase them. Although what with the success of the Dairy Milk Oreo bar and seeing people rave about these on Instagram I had high hopes.
Described as "milk chocolate eggs with a soft vanilla flavour mousse filling (42%) with biscuit pieces (4.5%) it's a hybrid between the standard Dairy Milk Oreo bar, which has a firmer filling and the standard Egg 'n' Spoon vanilla product.
As with the other Egg 'n' Spoon products each chocolate egg has an easy to bite off top to unveil the innards and is complete with a purple plastic spoon to dig into the contents. It was nice to see that there were clear flecks of Oreo biscuit pieces within the creamy mousse.
Digging in and trying a bit of the mousse filling I was pretty impressed, the darker Oreo biscuit pieces help to offset the creamy vanilla mousse and it reminded me of almost eating an inverse Oreo, in the sense that you get a lot more filling and a lot less biscuit. The texture is thick and mousse-like, a tad bit fatty but nothing horrific, whilst the Oreo pieces add a nice crunch to the eat.
I'm sure you're all fairly familiar with what Dairy Milk tastes, a lot sweeter these days than it used to be and it's never going to be the highest of quality, but still this product is really enjoyable and one of the best mainstream products out there this Easter. I can see why people have been raving about them.
Like Creme Eggs many people have their way of eating these - personally it depends what mood I'm in, sometimes I like to spoon out all the filling then eat the egg shell, other times I like to bite into it to get filling + chocolate shell at the same time. Either way they're pretty damn delicious and I may have to make sure I stock up before Easter is over...that is unless Cadbury decide to introduce this flavour into their Snowballs...
Taste - 7.8/10 -Standard Dairy Milk chocolate, creamy, sweet vanilla mousse offset by slightly bitter Oreo biscuit pieces.
Texture - 7.0/10 - Fairly thick, smooth mousse with crunchy Oreo pieces.
Appearance - 8.0/10 - Still think the format works really well and great that you get spoons included to eat these with.
Price - 9.0/10 - I picked these up for £1! That makes these eggs 25p each, absolute bargain, think they're still on special at Tesco so would definitely recommend getting them now.
Overall - 8.0/10 - A tasty edition to the Egg 'n' Spoon range.
Great for anyone who enjoys the standard Cadbury Dairy Milk Oreo bar!
